Mojave House
Joshua Tree, California

Mojave House is conceived not as a retreat layered with wellness features, but as architecture that is wellness. It establishes the belief that space itself can regulate, restore, and elevate the human experience. Every decision, from siting to circulation, was guided by the question: how can architecture support physical, emotional, and psychological well-being?

Located on a high plateau in California’s Mojave Desert, the project is organized as a constellation of private bedrooms arranged around a central lodge. This inward-facing composition fosters both solitude and connection, allowing guests to retreat privately while having access to nearby regional amenities. The lodge acts as a portal to the sublime—framing vast desert horizons, grounding the body in stillness, and heightening awareness of light, silence, and scale.

Designed as a one-stop getaway experience, Mojave House embraces the desert not as a backdrop, but as an active participant. Long sightlines to the infinite horizon, dune-hugging paths, and immersive relationships between interior and exterior encourage movement, reflection, and deep presence. More than a resort, Mojave House is the architectural genesis of HOM’s ongoing inquiry into how wellness can be embedded—quietly, powerfully, permanently—into the built environment.
