Mojave House

Mojave House explores the idea that wellness need not be added as a collection of extant features, but can emerge from the architecture itself.

Located on a high plateau in California’s Mojave Desert, the project is organized as a constellation of private bedrooms surrounding a central lodge. The composition creates a deliberate balance between solitude and gathering, while the lodge opens outward to frame the vast desert horizon and heighten an awareness of light, silence, distance, and scale.

Throughout the project, the desert is treated not as a backdrop but as part of the wellness experience. Long sight lines, planned pathways through the landscape, and interchangeable relationships between indoors and outdoors encourage movement, reflection, and engagement with a sense of place.

Developed independently of HŌM, Mojave House is presented as a precedent for ideas that have subsequently become central to HŌM’s exploration of human-adaptive living: architecture conceived as an active participant in how we feel, occupy, and experience the world around us.
